Educational Technology and Media Resources at Maywood Middle School, CUESD

 

Study Island 

This software can be accessed at any computer with a web browser and an Internet connection.  6th, 7th and 8th grade students are given passwords by their teachers to access this online resource.  All quizzes that students take on Study Island are precisely linked to specific California State Standards.  Study Island software has been provided by the Maywood School and GEARUP Grant Project for Maywood students.  We have a school site license for this program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  Students can also use Study Island at home. 


Rosetta Stone

This software can be accessed by 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Maywood School using computers in the Maywood Computer Lab in Room 13 and in the Library Computer Lab. We have a school site license for this software, and it is located on our Maywood server.   Rosetta Stone provides English language learning modules for students at all grade levels. 

 

Read Naturally

This software can be accessed by 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Maywood School using computers in the Maywood Computer Lab in Room 13 and Room 22..  We have a school site license for this software and it is located on our Maywood server.  This software uses headphones and microphones.

WebPath Express

The District offers WebPath Express to CUESD students, teachers and parents.  Professional educators have selected over 25,000 websites suitable for students, grades K-8.  Each website has an annotated link.  The database is searchable by a variety of methods.  Any student, teacher or parent can access these websites using an Internet connection and web browser, at school or at home.   

 

Accelerated Reader Quizzes

This software can be accessed by all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Maywood School using any computer at the school with an "AR Quiz Icon."  Starting in September, 2006, all 3rd to 8th grade students at all five schools in the CUESD now use the Accelerated Reader program.  We now have over 19,000 AR quizzes for our CUESD students to use.  The AR Quiz taking module is accessed from any Maywood computer using a shortcut on the computer desktop.    

 

Accelerated Reader Quiz List - Searchable Databases

This software can be accessed by any person using a web browser connected to the Internet, at home or at school  Students, teachers, and parents can use this information to assist their child with selecting books appropriate for their reading level goals.  There are online searchable AR Quiz lists for Maywood, Olive View, Woodson, West Street, and Rancho Tehama.  You can search by author, title, AR quiz level, points, and other ways. 

 

Accelerated Math

This software can be accessed by 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Maywood School in their Math Class.  We have a school site license for this software and it is located on our Maywood server.  We have a number of AR Math quiz reading units.  The software is accessed from selected computers from a shortcut on the computer desktop. 

 

Ainsworth Keyboard Trainer

This software can be accessed by 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Maywood School.  The software can be used in the Maywood Computer Lab (Room 13), in the Maywood Library computer Lab, and on any computer at the Maywood School with the "Ainsworth Typing Tutor" icon on the desktop.  The program resides on the Maywood School server.  The program is accessed through a shortcut on the computer desktop. 

 

United Streaming

Discovery Education United Streaming is a digital video-on-demand and online teaching service to help improve students' retention and test scores.  It is aligned to U.S. state and provincial standards.  The website contains thousands of video clips.  See Below for more information on United Streaming and how our teachers use this resource with our students in the classroom or computer labs.   

 

Microsoft Office 2003

All computers in the CUESD have Microsoft Office 2003 installed.  This software suite includes Microsoft's Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Access.  We also offer the Nvu web authoring software.    

 

EAST-EETT3 Computer Lab (Room 9)

The 23 computers in the EAST-EETT3 Computer Lab will be used in 2008-2009 by selected students in 7th and 8th grade science classes.   All teachers can also use the many types of software available in this advanced computer lab, e.g., Casablanca Video Editing, Adobe Photoshop, Sketch Up graphic arts software, Dreamweaver, ProShow Gold, FrontPage, GPS software, Print Master, Microsoft Office, and video and audio-recording software.   

 

Maywood Library Catalog

All students, teachers and staff can use the Maywood School Library catalog to search for books and documents available in the Maywood Middle School library.  The library catalog, sometimes called the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is searchable by a variety of approaches: author, title, subject, keyword, series, AR reading level, etc.  The library catalog is on a SIRNET server in Red Bluff, running on Follett Destiny software, and is accessible from any computer at school or at home connected to the Internet using your web browser.  The Maywood School Library also has its own webpage, and a website for all the CUESD school libraries online.   

 

Internet Usage Policies and Procedures for CUESD

These policy and procedures documents were approved by the CUESD School Board.  They apply to all teachers, staff, and students at the Maywood Middle School.   All incoming 6th grade students are given a Acceptable Technology Use Policy document for parental review and signatures.  Copies of signed forms are kept in the Maywood School Library.

Microsoft Office 2003

All computers in the CUESD have Microsoft Office 2003 installed.  This software suite includes Microsoft's Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Access.  The Maywood Library professional collection and the EAST-EETT3 project have a variety of books and manuals on Microsoft software and other types of popular software.  Nvu web authoring software is also available. 


 

Before and After School Maywood Computer Lab, Room 13, (2008-2009) 

Helping Teachers Use Technology: Tutorials, One-on-One Training Sessions, Question and Answer Sessions on Educational Technology. 
Any teacher or staff member in the CUESD is welcome to use this in-house training resource.  Contact Mike Garofalo for more information. 

 

United Streaming

Discovery Education Unitedstreaming is a digital video-on-demand and online teaching service to help improve students' retention and test scores.  It is aligned to U.S. state and provincial standards.  The website contains thousands of video clips.  Teachers can create their own collection of video clips organized in a manner that best suits their needs.  Black line masters and supporting instructional materials are also available.  This website can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood School.  We have a school site license for this software. Since it uses web access, any teacher can access their UnitedStreaming library on any Internet connected computer.  If any teacher needs help in using this resource, please contact Mike Garofalo.

 

Maywood School Website and Webpages for Teachers

Every Maywood teacher has a webpage with basic information about their class and contact information.  Every teacher can have documents and webpages added to their website.  Some teachers have much more information on their webpage or blog, e.g., Phil Barletto, Steve Dillon, Janice Farmer.  If you are interested in having more information on your homepage, please talk to the District webmasters Mike Garofalo or Jeanie Stout, or the Maywood Assistant Webmaster, Martin Jimenez.   You can have Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML or PDF documents placed on your webpage.   Both Microsoft Word and Nvu can be used to create HTML formatted webpages.  Any teacher interested in developing a free academic blog (Blogger, WordPress), photo archive (Flickr), or wiki (PB Wiki, WetPaint wiki) should talk to Mike Garofalo.  

 

EAST-EETT3 Computer Lab (Room 9)

EdTech Profile Online Technology Use Survey

This software can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood Middle School.    All teachers at Maywood Middle School must take this online survey in May of each year.  All students in the EAST-EETT3 grant take the student version of this survey in September and May of each year.  Accessed via the web.

Genesis

Used for taking daily attendance and recording grades.  This software can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood Middle School from a shortcut on your computer desktop.  We moved for SASIx to Genesis in July, 2008.  Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using the Genesis student database system.   

 

Grade Quick
The world's leading grade book solution. This software can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood Middle School from a shortcut on your computer desktop.  Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using Grade Quick.   

 

Accelerated Reader Teacher Module

This software can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood Middle School from a shortcut on you computer desktop.  In combination with the STAR test results and student quiz results, teachers use this software to manage students in their classroom using the Accelerated Reader program.   Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using the AR teacher module. 

 

Accelerated Math Teacher Module

This software can be accessed by all mathematics teachers at Maywood Middle School from a shortcut on your computer desktop.  Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using the Accelerated Math teacher module.   

 

Before and After School Computer Lab (2007-2008)

 

EduSoft

This software can be accessed by all teachers at Maywood Middle School.  It provides detailed information on student test scores.  The EduSoft Assessment Management System allows teachers to create special tests linked to California State standards and have the tests graded by the
EduSoft computer software.  This is a web based service for which we have a subscription.  Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using the EduSoft software.   

 

Ainsworth Keyboard Trainer Classroom Management

This software can be accessed by any teacher at Maywood Middle School.  At present, 6th grade teachers regularly use this module to track the progress of 6th grade students.  The program is on the Maywood School server, and can be accessed by any teacher from a shortcut on your computer desktop. Please speak with Mrs. Jeanie Stout if you need any assistance with using the Ainsworth Keyboard software.     

 

Microsoft Office 2003

Maywood School In-House Training

 

This webpage was viewed and discussed with all Maywood School Teachers at a staff in-service
meeting on 11/29/2006 by Mike GarofaloHandout for the 11/29/06 meeting.  This presentation
helped us meeting EAST-EETT3 grant requirements for professional staff development. 

The United Streaming software was discussed with all Maywood teachers at a staff in-service on
11/29/2006 by Jeanie Stout and Mike Garofalo, and at two previous staff in-service sessions
in 2005 conducted by the TCDE District Librarian, Maureen Lasley.

A class was offered in June 2006 for CUESD teachers and staff on developing webpages using
Microsoft FrontPage.  Presentations and lectures on Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Photoshop, SketchUp,
and GPS were offered to teachers and students in the EAST-EETT3 project.

Before and After School Computer Lab, Room 13, (2008-2009)


The Maywood School Computer Lab, Room 13, will be open for student use before school, from 7:45 to 8:15 am every Tuesday and Thursday morning.  Students may use Study Island, Ainsworth Keyboard Trainer, Rosetta Stone, Microsoft Office software, and selected Internet educational websites.  Jeanie Stout or Mike Garofalo will open the Maywood Computer Lab. 

The Maywood Computer Lab, Room 13, will be open after school from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday during the 2008-2009 school year for teachers.  Jeanie Stout or Mike Garofalo can provide tutorials for small groups and one-on-one training for teachers, staff and students.  They will be providing training in computer software, educational technology, and computers in schools.  For the current Professional Development Training and Tutorials Schedule check the InfoZone Blog by Mike Garofalo.
