Verbs
(They're not really boring!)

A verb is an action word. It may show movement or just thought.
        Some samples of verbs are:  walking, thinking, or sitting.
 
 
Verbs can make a story come alive. 
They can also make the story very dull and boring.
Boring verbs are written in black below.

1) The man walked across the road.
   2) A snake is coming towards you.
 3)   The child is asking for a toy.

The same sentences come alive with exciting verbs!!!

1) The man staggered and stumbled across the road.
                           or
            The man darted across the road.

        2) A snake is quietly slithering towards you.

                3)  The child is whining and pleading for a toy.
                                            or
                    The child attempted again to beg for a toy.

These sentences can be more exciting if we 'dress-up' the other words.
1) The weathered old man staggered and stumbled across the dusty, deserted road.
                                or
     The young man in the dark coat, darted quickly through the busy traffic to the other side of the road.

2)  A diamond back snake is quietly slithering between the dry grasses towards you.

3) The tear-stained child is whining and pleading to her embarrassed mother for another toy.
                                or
    The small, determined child, attempted again to persuade grandfather to buy the amazing, mechanical toy.

Each sentence painted a better picture in your mind as you read it.  This is what word choice can do.  Most people know how to use describing words (adjectives) with nouns, but they forget to use adverbs to describe verbs.   Sometimes verbs are just overlooked, but these are the words that make ads sell, books hook you, and writing more entertaining.
